Two Special Sub-Inspectors (SSIs) attached to the Variety Hall police station were arrested by sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) on Tuesday while accepting bribe from a man for not registering a case against him for having ridden two-wheeler under the influence of alcohol.
The arrested were Ganeshan (53) and Irulappan (57).
DVAC sources said that the two SSIs had caught Sridhar, a resident of Kovaipudur, when he rode the two-wheeler under the influence of alcohol on February 27.
The officers seized the vehicle and allegedly demanded ₹ 6,000 from Mr. Sridhar to release the two-wheeler. As Mr. Sridhar informed that he could not pay the amount, the officers lowered it to ₹ 3,000 and then to ₹2,000. ....

The village administrative officer of Pannimadai and a former village assistant were arrested on charges of graft on Thursday.
Karthik from Pannimadai approached VAO C. Sivakumar (39) on Tuesday for a signature for name change in patta. He was asked to pay ₹ 7,000 as bribe for the work. Mr. Karthik lodged a complaint with the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) and a trap was laid. On Wednesday, Mr. Karthik went to the village office and gave the money to former village assistant R. Palanisamy (60), who collected it on behalf of Sivakumar. The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) on Thursday arrested three persons including an official from the Coimbatore Corporation on charges of accepting bribe. Officials said A. Nirmal Kumar (41), a surveyor attached to the East Zone office of Coimbatore Corporation at Singanallur along with a retired survey field officer A. Natarajan (67) and a tout N. Pradeep Kumar (38) were arrested.
Nirmal Kumar allegedly demanded ₹ 6,000 from the complainant for a patta name transfer process and instructed him to give it through Natarajan. Based on the complaint, the DVAC sleuths led by Deputy Superintendent of Police T.H. Ganesh laid a trap on Thursday, during which Natarajan allegedly asked to give the bribe to Pradeep Kumar. All the three accused were subsequently booked under sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and were remanded in judicial custody, according to the officials. Sleuths of the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) on Thursday arrested a police sub-inspector and a constable for accepting a bribe of ₹ 6,000 from a person to settle a traffic violation.
The arrested were sub-inspector A. Maruthayyapandi (54) and police constable S. Sakthivel (27) attached to the traffic police station at Sulur.
DVAC Deputy Superintendent of Police T.H. Ganesh said that Maruthayyapandi had caught Murugan, a native of Dharmapuri who has been doing painting works near Sulur, for driving under the influence of alcohol a few days ago.
“The SI did not register a case for the violation and kept the Murugan’s two-wheeler in a paid parking facility. As per Murugan’s complaint, the SI initially demanded ₹ 12,000 to release the two-wheeler. The officer later agreed to release the vehicle if Murugan paid ₹ 6,000,” said Mr. Ganesh. ....
