Boone County Sheriff s K-9 Loki honored during memorial service
BELVIDERE Boone County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Loki was honored Saturday as a beloved member of law enforcement who had a successful career specializing in narcotics policing.
Loki’s death last month in an alcohol-related traffic crash triggered an outpouring of grief during a funeral service outside of the Boone County Public Safety Building that was attended by officers from police departments across northern Illinois.
“In a year where it seemed like the hits just keep on coming, it’s at times like these when you realize how much love and support there still is in communities like this one,” Boone County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Kevin Smyth said. “I think I can speak for everyone with the Boone County Sheriff’s Department when I say I have never been more proud to work for and serve this community.”

Boone County K-9 Loki was killed, when Deputy Rosenkranz s vehicle was struck by a drunk driver back on December 27th. The deputy was pulled over on the side of the road on I-90 when his vehicle was struck. The support for this K-9 unit has been incredible, and there was a quick push by the community to help out in anyway possible.check this out.

An Illinois police K9 died after the deputy’s vehicle in which he was sitting was hit by an alleged drunk driver on the shoulder of Interstate 90 Sunday around 1:30 a.m.
The K9, Loki, was in Boone County Deputy Robert Rosenkranz’s vehicle during a traffic stop when an alleged drunk driver slammed a limousine into the vehicle, injuring the dog, MSN reported.
Loki died later “at a veterinary hospital in Rockford.”
The limousine driver, 53-year-old Vincent Millare, was treated at a hospital and charged with “driving under the Influence, failure to yield upon approaching a stationary emergency vehicle, driving on the shoulder and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.”
