Prime Minister decides to resign amid public protest over COVID-19 patient's treatment

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. Khuresukh Ukhnaa has just announced that he will be stepping down as the Prime Minister of Mongolia. 
Yesterday, January 20, Deputy Prime Minister Ya.Sodbaatar and Minister of Health T.Munkhsaikhan submitted their resignation to the Prime Minister because of public pressure and protests over a mishandling of a relocation of a COVID-19 patient and her newborn baby from maternity hospital to the National Center for
Communicable Diseases. 
When announcing his resignation, Prime Minister Khurelsukh expressed regret for the situation and made an apology on behalf of himself and ‘those officials who failed their responsibility’. 
“The government of Mongolia and the State Emergency Commission had been mobilizing all efforts throughout the period defined by the pandemic, with timely measures of border closures and implementing heightened emergency state. There is no death from COVID-19 yet.” ....

Mongolia's Prime Minister resigns following protests over alleged mishandling of mother, baby

LAANBAATAR: Mongolia’s parliament has overwhelmingly voted to accept the resignation of Prime Minister of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa.
Local news agency Montsame said that 95.2 percent of the lawmakers present at the parliament voted in favor of accepting the resignation.
Under Mongolia’s law, the prime minister’s resignation the entire cabinet, formed in July 2020, will also be stepping down.
At the parliament session on Thursday, MP S.Byambatsogt said that this is the first time when the country’s Prime Minister resigns since Mongolia adopted its first democratic Constitution in 1992.
The ruling Mongolian People’s Party is expected to convene on Friday to name candidates for the country’s 32 ....

Deputy PM virtually meets with ADB Country Director

/MONTSAME/ Deputy Prime Minister Ya.Sodbaatar yesterday held a virtual meeting with
ADB Country Director for Mongolia Pavit Ramachandran, exchanging views on
non-refundable aid and technical assistance projects and programs that are included
in partnership strategy to be co-implemented with Mongolia in 2021-2024.
ADB has provided financing of USD 3.2 billion to Mongolia in
the past 28 years and tangible results have been made in numerous
areas including education, health, society, finance, infrastructure and urban
planning.
During the meeting, Deputy PM expressed gratitude on issuing
loan worth USD 158.8 million targeted to preventing and taking responsive
measures against the pandemic, reducing negative impacts of the pandemic on the ....

Strict lockdown to be reintroduced partly in Ulaanbaatar until January 6

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. At its irregular meeting held today on December 21, the Cabinet made the decision to reintroduce strict lockdown partly in Ulaanbaatar city starting from 6 AM, December 23 until 6AM, January 6.
 
During the press conference, Deputy Prime Minister Ya.Sodbaatar highlighted that the decision was made based on the suggestions received from the Ministry of Health, the National Center for Communicable Diseases as well as scholars and researchers. He also noted that the measures have been set to be implemented from 6 AM December 23 in order to provide the opportunity for citizens who had left for rural parts of the country to return to the capital city and make necessary preparations. ....
