The legislation will be brought up during Tuesday night s Rensselaer County Legislature meeting.
The George Floyd Justice in Policing Act of 2021 was passed in the House in March 2021 and will now be considered by the U.S. Senate in May.
âThis legislation addresses a wide range of policies and issues regarding policing practices and law enforcement accountability and will change the culture of law enforcement, empower our communities, and so importantly, build trust between law enforcement and our communities,â Deputy Minority Leader Cindy Doran said in a news release

The conviction of former police officer Derek Chauvin showed that George Floydâs life really did matter to the justice system on trial. While this all too rare occurrence of hope and optimism does not erase the many injustices faced by black, brown and all people of color in their communities; this is the beginning of reform, not the end.
