Union Local back in class after bomb threat | News, Sports, Jobs

Union Local High School and Middle School resumed their sessions Thursday after students were evacuated during a bomb threat. Normal school will resume today.
BELMONT Union Local students dealt with a disruption Thursday when the high school and the adjoining middle school were evacuated.
A note with an apparent bomb threat was reportedly found in a restroom.
“It was found by a student and taken to the principal,” Belmont County sheriff’s Chief Deputy James Zusack said.
Law enforcement quickly arrived on scene. About eight officers, including sheriff’s deputies and Flushing police, swept the building for an hour and a half. They determined a K-9 was not needed. ....

Man arrested with child, drugs in vehicle | News, Sports, Jobs

ST. CLAIRSVILLE Belmont County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Robert Burdine, 35, of Glencoe Tuesday morning after a reported domestic incident where he allegedly took a 3-year-old boy from the residence.
“He left the residence heading toward St. Clairsville. St. Clairsville PD stopped him. We assisted with the stop,” Chief Deputy James Zusack said. “He was taken to jail.”
Burdine is charged with misdemeanor level domestic violence, endangering children and interfering with custody, along with two third-degree felony drug possession charges, and one misdemeanor-level charge of possession of marijuana.

Law enforcement officials locate the body of Edward Reed on Wednesday near his Uniontown residence. Reed apparently took his own life after stabbing his wife and daughter and a dog at the residence.
An early-morning manhunt for the suspect in the stabbing of two people ended Wednesday afternoon when Edward Reed was found dead.
Reed, 49, who lived at a house on Ohio 331, Uniontown-Flushing road in the Uniontown area, apparently took his own life.
The two victims were Reed’s wife and daughter.
“The husband stabbed the wife and daughter at the residence,” Belmont County Chief Deputy James Zusack. “The wife and daughter luckily got out and called us from a nearby residence.” ....

SOUTHEASTERN OHIO was hit hard by heavy snowfall Wednesday evening, with motorists reporting hazardous roadways, close calls and accidents, and first responders and dispatchers strained to the limit.
Uniformly, emergency agency officials or first responders were either unavailable or swamped with emergency calls in Belmont, Harrison, Jefferson and Monroe counties
In Belmont County, a dispatcher at the Ohio State Highway Patrol St. Clairsville post said they were dealing with an “extreme” number of accident calls, with all on-duty troopers out responding to crashes. Emergency Management Agency officials could not be reached for comment.
Chief Deputy James Zusack of the Belmont County Sheriff’s Office, off duty at the time, said driving conditions were hazardous Wednesday evening. ....
