Falmouth Fire Rescue responded to a brush/structure fire at 41 Cove Street Tuesday, May 25, afternoon that resulted in minor damage to a home and destroyed a shed.
Firefighters worked the scene for two hours to dampen the flames that were extending into the marsh near Great Pond.
The one occupant of the home was unharmed, Falmouth Deputy Fire Chief Scott Thrasher said.
The fire was noticed by the departmentâs fire inspection team that happened to be in the area after returning from an inspection in East Falmouth. The team smelled smoke and began searching for the fire. Once they crossed the Great Pond Bridge, team members were able to see the fire as the smoke filled the back yard, and called for assistance.
High winds and dry conditions kept the Falmouth Fire Departmentâand other Upper Cape mutual-aid fire departmentsâbusy battling brush and structure fires Friday and Saturday, April 23 and 24.
On Friday afternoon, just before 3 PM, firefighters from Falmouth and Joint Base Cape Cod responded to a two-story structure fire at 20 Crosby Lane in Waquoit.
When the firefighters arrived on the scene, they saw flames shooting out of the second floor of the home and quickly ascertained that all four family members, as well as their dog, were safe, Falmouth Deputy Fire Chief Scott Thrasher said.
Firefighters found that the fire, driven by string winds, had spread to the roof and caused a partial collapse, Deputy Chief Thrasher said. Crews battled the flames from outside the building until they could determine the structureâs stability.
