COVID-19 vaccination decline in Wisconsin mirrors national trend

MADISON - The number of COVID-19 vaccine shots being administered in Wisconsin is dropping at a time when just one county has fully vaccinated more than half its population and the White House is warning states to use their doses or lose them.    State health officials say Wisconsin has seen a precipitous drop in demand for vaccinations, mirroring trends across the country. The plateau is prompting new efforts to inform and persuade the 2.1 million people left in the state who are eligible but have not yet received a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.  It’s really important to remember part of the reason demand has dropped off is we have vaccinated so many people, Department of Health Services Deputy Secretary Julie Willems Van Dijk said Tuesday. If you climb a mountain, you climb and you go on a plateau. We’ve done a big ascent, and now we’re on a plateau.

Wisconsin to open vaccinations to general public Monday

Wisconsin to open vaccinations to general public Monday TODD RICHMOND, Associated Press FacebookTwitterEmail MADISON, Wis. (AP) Wisconsin health officials have decided to make COVID-19 vaccinations available for the general public starting next week, accelerating the timetable by a month, Gov. Tony Evers said Tuesday. The move comes as Evers administration braces for another surge in infections and a court order that could wipe out the governor s statewide mask mandate. Currently, health care workers, people over 65, nursing home residents and staff, educators and people with existing health conditions are eligible for coronavirus vaccines. That will expand to everyone 16 and older starting Monday, Evers announced.
