Aldara Henderson, of Tampa Bay, Florida, began her graduate education at SIUE after going into partial remission. âAbout five years ago I went to the hospital with pain, and it turned out I had stage four cancer and they gave me four months to live,â Aldara said. âWith what I experienced and the connections Iâve made with other cancer patients and with COVID-19 and everything going on, it is so important to reach out and help [cancer patients].â Dr. Hauibo Xin, associate professor and chair of the Department of Applied Health, served as Aldaraâs mentor and chair of her thesis committee. Xin said given the lack of guidelines for cancer patients during the pandemic, Aldaraâs research was all the more valuable. ....
Work progressing on $105M SIUE Health Sciences Building Jan. 13, 2021 FacebookTwitterEmail EDWARDSVILLE The Illinois Capital Development Board (CDB) has selected HOK-St. Louis as the preferred architectural design firm for preliminary design of the Health Science Building (HSB) on the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville campus. The CDB released $10,537,000 in planning funds in January 2020 to create preliminary designs for the HSB. The complex will include approximately 221,000 square feet. The project’s total cost is approximately $105 million. EDWARDSVILLE Southern Illinois University Edwardsville public health students recently pursued such projects as a 60-minuter interactive webinar on stress management techniques for Edwardsville Public Library patrons and an informational video campaign on safe travel habits shared on TikTok. “What has been most impressive about these students is their flexibility, adaptability, determination and guts,” said Nicole Klein, PhD, professor and public health program director in the Department of Applied Health. “They were all unexpectedly forced to adapt to new conditions, including online learning, using online tools for collaboration, illnesses, financial insecurity and general COVID funk.” ....
