Female GAA players are set to receive the same amount of funding as their male counterparts, Minister of State for Sport Jack Chambers has confirmed.
As it stands, male players receive €1,200 from the state while female players just €400.
Speaking on RTE Radio’s Today with Claire Byrne, Minster Chambers confirmed that male funding would remain at its current level with money for female players set to be trebled.
I can t stand over or defend that inequality,” he stated. We re in 2021 and this year we ve seen the GPA and WGPA has merged, underpinned by the message of equality. I think that principle has to stand when it comes to the funding of our players. ....

GPA welcomes equal public funding for female inter-county players

The Gaelic Players Association (GPA) has welcomed the announcement of an increase in funding for female inter-county players.
The Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media are set to increase public funding for female inter-county players to €2.4 million overall.
This represents a €1.7 million increase from the previous figure of €700,000.
The announcement comes within five months of the merger of the GPA and Women’s Gaelic Players Association (WGPA) and the GPA said on Monday that, equitable public funding for our female and male members has been achieved. ....
