Really diminishes, i think, the public trust that the department of justice needs to be effective in this mission. what do you say to people when they say, always susceptible to the sort of thing? our susceptible to a president politicizing the entire system against individuals? well, i think every time we go through one of these we ve come a little bit stronger. you know, where the civil rights violations of j edgar hoover, and the monitoring of martin luther king, for example, which led to the church committee, and the formation of some rules, the fisa court for example, to try to make things better. and then we had watergate, and then some efforts to make the department independent. but at the end of the day, the justice department is all about human beings, and so you can have all the rules in the world, but if you don t have people with comply with those rules, there is, i think, some danger that the justice department could be weaponized. how does that happen? so let s see ....
