Council approved Bylaw 1090-2021 at the May 10 regular meeting, in an effort to reduce barriers and increase clarity and efficiency with regards to aspects of Land Use Bylaw 809-2013.
Dennis Peck, planning and development manager for the city, noted that the Land Use Bylaw was a living document which allowed for updated planning practices. The approved change expands home-based business use, aligns the Telford Industry Overlay Area and East Telford Lake Area Structure Plan, increases parking flexibility at assisted living facilities and allows for potential cannabis production facilities within Light Business Industrial. ....

Council waives fees for patio use, expands use

Since expanding the patio policy to cover the whole city, administration had received several requests to incorporate outdoor dining.
During the April 12 regular meeting, council approved two motions to make it easier for businesses to have a patio. One motion waived the $34 commercial development patio fee for the year and another expanded the patio policy to cover the entire city, rather than just downtown.

At the April 19 regular meeting, Manager of Planning Dennis Peck said that since passing those motions they had received 10 applications and had approved three permits. City Manager Derek Prohar said the policy change had been noticed by the province after hearing Premier Jason Kenney mention Leduc’s decision at a recent Alberta Urban Municipalities Association meeting. ....
