Charko wins Carrot River mayoral byelection

Charko elected as mayor in Carrot River by-election

The Town of Carrot River has elected their new mayor. Roman Charko defeated Dylan Borody in the by-election held on Wednesday, May 12 by a vote of 171-127. “It’s a great honour to receive that phone call,” Charko told northeastNOW. “And the people having the confidence in me doing the job.” Wednesday’s by-election was held as former Mayor Dennis Letendre stepped down earlier this year after being elected in November. Charko said he hopes to bring some stability to the mayor’s chair, something he thinks the citizens are looking for. “We’ve had a few by-elections in town, that’s a concern of the citizens,” he said. “There’s been some staff changes, that’s a concern to the citizens.”

Two candidates enter Carrot River mayoral race

Carrot River residents will soon be heading to the polls to elect their next mayor. The position opened up when Dennis Letendre resigned in March due to health concerns. Roman Charko and Dylan Borody have submitted nomination papers to fill the position. The byelection has been scheduled for May 12 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Carrot River Community Hall. Advance voting will take place at the town office on April 28 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The elected mayor’s term will run until November 2024. Dylan Borody Borody has been a councillor in Carrot River since 2018 and was appointed as the acting mayor during the March 23 council meeting.

Two running in Carrot River mayoral byelection

The next mayor will serve the community until November, 2024. The regular poll will take place on May 12 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Carrot River Community Hall on 3rd Avenue, while the advance poll will take place on April 28, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the town office on Main Street.    Roman Charko Charko served on the RM of Moose Range council for 20 years, with 12 years done consecutively. In this role, he has served on the North East Transportation Planning Area Committee and the Twin Lakes District Planning Commission. Charko currently serves on the Hudson Bay Route Association (HBRA) and as the vice-president for the Saskatchewan side of the Gateway Keewatin Corridor Inc.

Carrot River announces new town administrator

The Town of Carrot River has announced some changes at the position of town administrator. Kevin Trew has officially resigned from his position with the town, effective Feb. 26. Trew has been with the town since May of 2012. Replacing Trew, effective Feb. 10, is Brennan Hall, who came to Carrot River in 2019 as the general manager of the Carrot River Outback Thunder Junior Hockey Club. Hall has been with the town since April of 2020 and in October, was hired as admin in training. According to a media release from the town, Hall will continue to receive mentorship from Trew over the next year as he works to get his standard certificate. The release added Hall has the education requirements necessary to fulfill the job.
