COLUMBUS, Ohio A World War II veteran got to celebrate his 98th birthday in Columbus Monday evening.
Veterans Outreach hosted the birthday party for Joe Lavinger at the American Legion on Demorest Road.
Lavinger was a minesweeper on the beaches of Normandy during the war.
Afterward, he became an entertainer for 56 years. So it s no surprise he entertained at his birthday party doing the macarena for everyone. ....

Two men arrested after separate, unrelated homicides early Thursday

Two people have been killed and two men have been arrested in separate, unrelated incidents early Thursday morning on opposite sides of Columbus, putting the city s homicide rate in 2021 nearly two months ahead of last year s all-time record.
Around 1:10 a.m. Thursday, officers were dispatched in response to a reported shooting in an apartment complex on the 1900 block of Fountainview Court, located off East Livingston Avenue, on the East Side.
Police found a 27-year-old man who had been shot. That man, who had not yet been identified as of mid-afternoon Thursday, was rushed in critical condition to Mount Carmel East hospital, where he died at 3:11 a.m. ....
