seven brands of hover board just last month following numerous reports of batteries catching fire or exploding. president trump: i don t think i will have to travel too much to sell it. it s selling itself. becoming very popular. but i think you will see something on february 1st when they open up the paycheck. that s when you will start to see it. rick: president trump suggesting that tax cuts and jobs act will sell itself after he signed the major tax overhaul into law last friday without any support from democrats in congress. now he is planning to win over the opposing party as he looks toward his 2018 agenda. arizona congressman sits on the house ways and means committee. good to see you. the president says the new year is all about infrastructure. is there any chance that they can get democrats on board? i would hope so. but as we experienced in the tax reform, a lot of the things
we were doing were discussions that had been going on republican, democrat for decades. some were actually even democrat ideas. but the left s base is so radicalized right now they made it very clear they could not provide us votes because they were afraid of their own primaries. rick: does the president need their help this year to get his infrastructure bill passed and get the big public works projects underway? that s a powerful point for democrats to understand. we ve demonstrated we can do big things and if necessary we can do big things on our own. it would be great to have some of our brothers and sisters on the democrat side actually help us because they know their districts, their communities better than we do. but if necessary, we will go it alone. rick: we talked about this last hour. if democrats don t work on infrastructure with the president they risk losing their base in their home states if they don t support projects
getting done in their home states to try to oppose the president. you would hope so. but the reality of it is my fear is much of today s politics is actually not about policy. or what is good for society. think about this, the tax reform bill is great for workers and the ability to save and you actually see the data in unemployment and so many good things happening in the economy. yet the left absolutely attacks it. so how do you come and say we need to do infrastructure, which is going to be hard. it will have bonds and debt mechanics and complicated portions. it would be the type of thing you should do bipartisan. rick: what about the attacks on the tax bill, congressman. unfair? you think it will help the people in arizona and across the country? yeah, particularly arizona is in the sweet spot for the tax reform bill. but the data is the data. you don t get to make up facts and then, you know, i
healthcare as there have been for the last decade or so. republicans want to repeal and replace obamacare. democrats say they simply want to improve the law. add that to a host of other issues like immigration, budgeting and the debt ceiling, it will be a busy 2018, one that is also a mid-term election year. julie and rick, back to you. julie: no pressure. rick. rick: for more on president trump s 2018 agenda let s bring in the editorial director for the washington examiner . good morning, hugo. as we heard from rich and the president it s about infrastructure in 2018. the president says he can work with democrats on that. is that overly optimistic? i don t think it s overly optimistic. the democrats are telling the truth saying they would like to get it done. as you remember they spent a trillion dollars on infrastructure and shovel-ready projects at the beginning of the obama administration and no objection to that.
griff, i haven t heard president trump weigh in on this topic but he has said quite a bit over the past 24 hours. he has been somewhat busy on twitter since arriving at the winter white house. first wanting to tackle infrastructure and tweeting he will take another crack at healthcare with bipartisan support tweeting to democrats and republicans will come together to develop a new healthcare plan. he continued his attacks on that so-called dossier, assailing the f.b.i. that they cannot after all this time verify claims in the dossier of russia/trump collusion. f.b.i. tainted, a sentiment we ve heard before. finally touting the economy saying business is looking really great next year. it will be a good year for companies and jobs and the stock market is poised for another year of success. i would point out, rick, that he has certainly gotten in a lot of golf, perhaps slowing down his twitter and he is certainly not commenting about
