Gov. Hogan orders flags lowered to honor Delmar officer who died in the line of duty

ANNAPOLIS â Governor Larry Hogan announced that he has directed that the U.S. and state flags in Maryland fly at half-staff in honor of Delmar Police Officer Cpl. Keith Heacook, who died in the line of duty.
âOn behalf of all Marylanders, I extend my sincerest condolences to the Delmar Police Department, and to the loved ones of Corporal Keith Heacook, a 22-year veteran of the department who died after being assaulted in the line of duty. We owe so much to the brave law enforcement officers who put their lives on the line every day to protect our communities.â

DELAWARE â The Delaware State Police are investigating an assault on a Delmar Police Officer that occurred early this morning.
At approximately 5:12 am on Sunday April 25, 2021, Delmar Police Department was dispatched to the 11000 block of Buckingham Drive in the Yorkshire Estates Community for a report of a fight in progress.
At this point in the investigation it is unclear what transpired inside the residence, but we do know the officer was involved in a physical altercation.
The dispatchers began checking on the officer and received no response. At that time, additional officers were dispatched and a Wicomico County Sheriffs Office Deputy and a Delaware State Trooper arrived on scene to find the officer unconscious in the residence.

DELMAR, Md.– Delaware State Police are investigating an assault on a Delmar Police Officer that occurred early Sunday morning.
Police say around 5 on Sunday morning when Delmar Police officer Keith Heacook was dispatched to the 11000 block of Buckingham Drive in the Yorkshire Estates Community for a report of a fight in progress.
Heacook was involved in the fight and was found unconscious by a Wicomico County Sheriffs Office Deputy and a Delaware State Trooper.
Police say first aid was rendered and was taken to TidalHealth before being transferred to shock trauma in Baltimore.
There were multiple people in the house that were taken into custody upon the arrival of additional units, and police say there is no threat to the general public or community.
