The hurt is still fresh across Delmarva in the wake of the Wednesday death of Cpl. Keith Heacook of the Delmar Police Department.
A 22-year veteran of the department, he was assaulted while responding to a 911 call Sunday morning at a home in the Yorkshire Estates community by the same man who police said attacked an elderly couple living across the street.
Heacook was critically injured, and hospital officials in Baltimore pronounced him clinically dead Wednesday afternoon.
Our community, my department, his family we all mourn, said Delmar Police Chief Ivan Barkley in a news conference announcing Heacook s death. ....
