While the contagious eye infection has been reported across several states in the country, large numbers of viral conjunctivitis caused by adenovirus have been reported in Maharashtra.
Conjunctivitis, which at this moment is common in Delhi, is also caused by viruses or bacteria and presents as eye redness, itching, eye discomfort and discharge. It needs isolation to prevent spread to other people, eye care and sometimes antibiotics under the guidance of an ophthalmologist, the doctor said.
The cases have now come down, said officials. Dr Abhay Dadewar, additional medical officer of health told The Indian Express, that more than 1,100 cases were identified in the jurisdiction of PCMC.
