City of Milford and Delaware Nature Center Enter Partnership | Milford LIVE! - Local Delaware News, Kent and Sussex Counties


A new partnership between Delaware Nature Center and the City of Milford may bring guided kayak and canoe tours to the Riverwalk
On Monday, Feb. 22, Milford City Council agreed to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Delaware Nature Society. The city and Delaware Nature Society have long partnered to provide hands-on programming for Pre-Kindergarten to fifth grade students in Milford School District.
“We’ve been working on an MOU which is a formal agreement between Parks and Recreation and the Delaware Nature Society,” Brad Dennehy, Parks and Recreation Director said. “We believe they are a good provider of programming especially anything around water. Milford has invested a lot of money in building infrastructure of the Riverwalk and I think it behooves us to use this part of the town. This allows them to put on some really good programming, everything from kayak tours to bird watching. We don’t have a playbook yet of what will be put on, but his do ....

Sussex Bird Club meeting set Feb. 14

The Sussex Bird Club will address the topic of using native plants to attract birds to the garden during its meeting at 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 14.
Alice Mohrman, education coordinator and certified wildlife habitat outreach agent at Abbott’s Mill Nature Center in Milford, will present the lecture. She will demonstrate how to create layers of native plants in a large or small landscape to attract birds throughout the year. These garden ideas with attractive native plants will serve to support wildlife and help reduce pollution in area waterways. She will also discuss how to certify a property as a National Wildlife Federation Wildlife Habitat. ....
