Del smashed the record three times in a row at Funny Car Chaos at Texas Motorplex before settling for a 3.19-second benchmark. 1 photo Funny cars may look funny, but they mean business. Especially those tuned and driven by Del Worsham. The California-born driver crushed all opposition at Texas Motorplex last week by running a handful of low three-second passes. Del set the first record at 3.21 seconds to go with a trap speed of 270.9 mph (435.97 kph). ....

Unless you lived in Japan, where he competed in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Fuel, you’d probably never heard of him until his debut at the 2002 Winternationals, but by year’s end, everyone from Don Garlits to Kenny Bernstein had felt the sting of his brief eight-race appearance on the tour that season. Oyama, who hailed from the Shinagawa ward in Tokyo Japan, purchased turnkey the ex-Don Prudhomme dragster owned by Southern Californian Robert Reehl and hired Reehl and his crew to run it for him. ....
