Ohio reported 1,921 new COVID-19 cases and 36 deaths on Monday – both lower than averages over the past week and past three weeks. Numbers reported to the Ohio Department of Health tend to be lower on Mondays, but both new cases and current hospitalizations have been trending downward for weeks. That continued Monday, with an estimated 2,012 COVID-19 patients receiving care in Ohio hospitals, including 521 in intensive care. That s below the seven-day moving average of 2,259 and 61% below the number hospitalized two months ago. Monday marked the seventh consecutive day with fewer than 2,500 COVID-19 patients in hospital b eds. If that trend holds, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine could eliminate an overnight curfew that s largely been in place since Nov. 19. The curfew was rolled back one hour on Jan. 27 to 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. ....
COLUMBUS – Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine released when K-12 teachers and staff would have their shot at a COVID-19 vaccine. DeWine has warned that the state won t receive enough COVID-19 doses to vaccinate every teacher starting Monday. Ohio is allocating about 55,000 shots per week to school employees to vaccinate about 334,000 K-12 teachers and staff next month. “I know everyone wants to start next Monday,” DeWine said during a Thursday news conference. “We simply do not have the supplies to do that.” Some teachers will get shots starting next week while others must wait until Feb. 22 to receive the first of a two-shot regimen. ....
