Congratulations to James and Karissa Mills on the birth of their son on May 5. He was named Liam Ardyn and he is a brother for Jay. He is also a grandson for Brian and Darci Mills and Al and Sheryl Brabant (White City). Great-grandparents are Doug and Carol Howarth, Ron De Yong (Regina) and great-great grandmother is Dorothy Mieltz of Moosomin . The Town of Wawota provided Shear Edge Hair Studio to today’s celebration of economic development, as an example of a success story in their community. Marley Hamilton opened the business in 2019 and has been doing hair since 2006. Many other services are offered such as massage therapy and cosmetic services. A variety of gifts are also available.

Congratulations to Tamara Kapell who has won the Clinical Education Award (Rural) from the Saskatchewan Physiotherapy Association. Tamara is a physiotherapist in the Kipling/Arcola region. She was nominated by Peggy Proctor who stated, Tamara is dedicated to her work, sets a high standard of practice for herself, loves clinical teaching and provides quality caring learning experiences for her students.” Sympathy to Stan and Bev Niebergall on the passing of Bev s brother, Lloyd Holmes of Regina. He passed away on April 24 at 63 years of age. He leaves daughter, Kristen, a son, Sean, and grandson, Damian. There will not be any funeral service at this time.

Marilyn Bourgon is the new resident in the Maryfield Villa. Enjoy your new home, Marilyn. Congratulations to our granddaughter, Emma Buhr who has recently graduated from MC College in Edmonton with a diploma in hairstyling apprenticeship. After two years of work, she hopes to obtain a journeyman qualification and eventually a red seal, which qualifies you to work anywhere in Canada. The forum and the curling rink have closed their doors until next fall. We are fortunate to have people willing to work and support both of these sport venues so that hockey, figure skating and curling could continue. The Wawota United Church Time and talent online auction starts on March 12 and finishes on March 21. There are more than 50 donations and a wide variety of items.

The Wawota Curling Rink was the lucky winner in the Original 16 Curling Club Sweep Stakes presented by Great West Brewing. The club will receive a $1,500 club improvement grant, Jet ice 016 In House Logo and a free afternoon adult learn to curl clinic. Kudos to Kristin Murray for entering for this win! Three Wawota residents celebrated their 90th birthdays this past month. Knud Hansen, who is a resident of Deer View Lodge on Jan. 2. Marie Jensen, a resident at the Maryfield Sunrise Villa, celebrated on January 22nd. She enjoyed a birthday cake and several family members visited from outside at the window.
