As a teen, Dee Hutch redesigned movie posters, airbrushed t-shirts and made flyers for businesses. He got in trouble for drawing demons and skulls on his folders at school.
When he Hutch was 12, the coolest place to hang out wasn t at the basketball court with his cousins. It was always at different tattoo shops, in tow with his dad, Darren Hutcherson, a tattoo artist.
Now, Hutch is a tattoo artist himself at Black Hand Tattoo Gallery on Main Street, which is owned by Hutcherson and has been open for more than eight years. The first and only Black-owned tattoo shop in Racine, Hutch said.Â
âI looked at a couple other buildings, but no, I wanted this one,â said McCray, 41. He remembered Henry & Wandaâs reputation of hosting live music and serving good food; he wanted to live up to that.
After a couple years of trying to get his business up and running, McCray and his wife, Rebecca, are now co-owners of Taste of Soul 262, the new restaurant calling that corner of Downtown Racine home.
Taste of Soul opened in February and serves soul food essentials â like fried okra, catfish, pork chops, other barbecue favorites and onion rings â and hosts live music almost every night.
