On the 25th anniversary of the end of WAKC, an encore presentation of a staff reunion from 2016 Twenty-five years ago, Akron lost its only local TV newsroom. After four decades of struggling to compete with Cleveland s TV stations including fellow ABC affiliate, WEWS WAKC-TV was bought by Paxson Communications, which quickly dropped its local programming.
