Ganja or cannabis cultivators allegedly attacked a team of Tripura Police, Border Security Force (BSF), anti-narcotics cell and local administration when the latter arrived to destroy illegal ganja plantations at Sonamura in Sipahijala district, 50 km from here, on Friday. Officials said they resorted to lathicharge and hurled tear gas shells to disperse the angry mob and also burnt down ganja worth over Rs. 1 crore. ....

After tribal council polls, Tripura now defers urban local body elections

The State Election Commission in Tripura has deferred polls to urban local bodies till February 27, 2021, citing the Covid-19pandemic. The state has 20 local administrative bodies, including six urban panchayats, one municipal corporation and 13 municipal councils.
The current tenures of these local bodies are to expire between December 17 and 20. According to municipal guidelines, all the local bodies would be deemed dissolved on the date of expiry of their tenures, unless they already are. ....

The engine of the Agartala-bound Rajdhani Express derailed around 10.45am in North Tripura on Friday. However, no injury or casualty was reported in the incident as the coaches weren’t attached to the engine at the time.
Speaking to indianexpress.com, Subhanan Chanda, chief public relations officer of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), confirmed the incident, saying the engine of the 02502 New Delhi-Agartala Special Rajdhani Express jumped rails at the Kumarghat station. ....

Tripura plans to conduct Madhyamik, Higher Secondary exams from May 10


Dual question papers would be set for the examinations next year based on the course curriculum and syllabus, which was earlier reduced by 30 per cent due to the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuing affect on classes. Schools were now instructed to complete practical classes between March 15-30 while all classes would end by March 30.
“We have decided to start the pre-board exams from April 1 and end it within April 20. The results would be published within April 30. These results would carry weightage in the final board results including weightage from assignments and internal test marks,” the minister said.
TBSE would be collecting tabulated details of marks secured by students in their pre-board exams, weekly tests and subject-related assignments with a weightage of 10 marks from pre-board results and 5 marks each from weekly tests and assignments. ....
