Unfortunately, the real truth from my perspective, we just dont have enough money and some of the reason we dont have enough money suspect the fault of anyone in this room. Its an personal tragedy. American tragedy because we do not fund our schools properly. And im going to go out in the reservation and say being a black woman, thats america. Education wasnt for everybody. So when you get to there, it becomes an inhere thing. What am i going to do about it . Because im not blaming a lot of these people that are here. What am i going to do about it, because i do believe in a very inclusive city college. I need my day classings. Classe. I need my evening classes. I need my online classes because i went to peralto. I went at night because i spent my early adulthood working in the family business. There wasnt a certificate that you couldnt get in three semesters and you had your little form and its like you could take schedul
College the bridge. If you were k12, that was the bridge you would walk across to get to state or uc. If you were not a native, city college was the bridge you would walk across to be able to have your esl and become an entrepreneur or do whatever your American Dream was. If you were already an employee of the city and county, and i think sometimes thats how come sciu has a little bit different perspective, because we represent so many people, so if you were just a worker in the city and county, city college was going to be the bridge that you maintained your certificate, you got retrained, go got the training you told your boss you had when you really didnt. And then i finished my degree as a lawyer and i came here and my other hobby was being an actor. My first job was an acting job. Programmes. And we believe the board of supervisors can play and Important Role bringing stakeholders together to design this kind of a policy. So what would a Community Higher Education fund look like . In 2004, proposition h was passed and it creates a template for a partnership between the city and its expect college to ensure that ccsf continues to provide quality Higher Education services to our diverse San Francisco communities. Using that kind of a model, the city has an opportunity to dedicate annual funding in the citys budget to support a robust college for all San Francisco because as the richest city in the nation, we have an opportunity to appreciate vital educational institutions by being leaders and Public Education funding and policy.
