fighting since the start of israel s ground operation in gaza, just as families of hostages demand urgent action to save them. also ahead, six people killed in a shooting spree in texas, a suspect now in custody. investigators trying to piece together a potential motive. and the atmospheric river that is totally drenching the west prompting some dramatic rescues. is there any end in sight to the torrent of water? thanks for joining us. it is 10:00 eastern. i m ana cabrera reporting from new york. we are just hours out now from the next republican debate, and donald trump, who won t even be on the stage is dominating the headlines for stunning comments about a potential second term. the former president refusing to say that he will not abuse his power should he return to the white house telling fox s sean hannity he won t be a dictator, except for day one. under no circumstances you are promising america tonight, you would never abuse power as retribution against anybody
mitch mcconnell didn t neglect this issue. donald trump didn t neglect this issue. they both recognized that they can advance their agenda through supreme court appointments, and democrats have been asleep on this issue forever, and that was just another night last night where they concentrate on the trivial issue of the day instead of something that really matters. that s an important point. a president can serve for four or eight years, a supreme court justice can serve for 30 or 40 years, depending on the person s health. nia, what are you looking at tonight? bidening will be debating tonight. there could be fireworks. the big four biden, sandering, buttigieg and sanders. harris. we saw, of course sanders do that in 2016. i ll expect he ll do that
santorum voted to raise the debt ceiling five times. he s run as a liberal, a moderate and conservative pirchlts don t think santorum s track record is that of a fiscal conservative. but the fighting is just getting uglier. it s just making them weaker and weaker, even with their own party. 55% of republicans 55% now say they wish there was another ka candidate running. as they get weaker, the president is only getting stronger. in michigan, the president is beating romney by 18 points and he s pummeling santorum by a whopping 26 points. so go ahead, guys. keep attacking each other. we ll just sit back and enjoy the show. joining me now, jamal simmons, a democratic communications consultant and political analyst. and jack oie kucinich in arizon where the republicans will be debating tonight. thank you both for being here
while on first read this is romney versus the romney alternate, and what we have seen so far is that romney has sort of coasted in one lane on his own, and, you know, in the other lanes are all of the people trying to get into the merge to get there. h it is like he is in the hov lane and they are trying to get there to merge together or in a basketball reference, it is like he has a bye to the second or the third round and all of the other folks are trying to get out of the bracket to play him. so, they have to draw the distinctions and that is why you saw tim pawlenty do that, because his name i.d. is very low and he needs a place like new hampshire to win and overcome somebody like romney. and it is quite a lineup. they will all be debating tonight, and thank you for a preview of what we might see. thank you. and a san francisco bay former officer is a free man
