That s not the way we in the media usually analyze debates. we cover them like sporting debates. we try to guess which candidates impress the tv audience the most. and we are always guessing about that although we rarely label our statements as the pure guesses they are. we evaluate debating skills. that s the problem with debates. presidents don t have to think on their feet. presidents never have to make a decision alone without advisers who have much more experience on every subject than the president does. so the debates do not test the skills necessary to do the job of president well. it s a job that you never get to see the president do, because the real work of the presidency is done behind the closed door of the oval office or the closed door of the cabinet room or the situation room or on air force one. the real work of the presidency is making decisions after being sufficiently briefed on the subject by people who have been working on that subject for

the fact of the matter is there was real friction between them. he thought she should have endorsed him in the race in 2016. they re rivals in the race. there s resentment he s stealing her thunder. and you remember they met before the beginning. there was a sanders warren meeting where they were trying to figure out if there was a way both wouldn t end up in the race. they had an idea of who the other the person should be. in 2016. it really was warren who was the person that a lot of the progressive groups wanted to see in the race. bill clinton was nerve about the prospect of warren getting into the race because of her appeal. and how she talks and debating skills. she with all the policy, she has taken some of the sentiments that surround sanders and she s turned it into something else. and i actually do think he serves her purposes in the race.

and you re friends with marco rubio. i m imagining this is what you re expecting out of him. can he deliver? and if he doesn t how much is at stake for him? first of all, i think he will deliver. we have not seen one debate debate from marco rubio let. let us not underestimate his debating skills. he s very skillful, he s talented, knows how to connect with an audience. he s witty, humorous, quick, poetic in his rhetoric whereas we see from ted cruz a, you know, kind of a strange dramatic flare. what i see from marco rubio is a, you know, poetic rhetoric. he needs to show that he can land a punch and take a punch, because i think we expect there to be fireworks between the two rookie senators tomorrow on that stage. i also think marco needs to somehow define where he fits in this entire spectrum. i think he s trying to thread the needle. and, you know, not be establishment and also not

i think she s exactly right that they are evenly matched. it comes down to pure debating skills, though, ted cruz is really without peer in american politics. off guy who s been in front of the supreme court umpteen million times and won umpteen million and two. he s very, very tough to debate. i do think that really on rubio now. we came out of that last debate, it was rubio, rubio, rubio. it was like ted cruz wasn t even there. now you come back. this flip, it s reversed. rubio has got to figure out a way to assert himself that, listen, if you re trying to leave trump toll safer water, leading ben carson to safer water, i m the safe guy. i know how to keep you safe. not this guy. if he can figure out a way to do it, he could pull it off. but to go he to head with ted cruz, who you know is going to be meticulously well prepared, who s going to have this place ready to go, dangerous for rubio, but he has to do it. i disagree. i think ted cruz was vizable in
