The UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council has approved funding for tabletop experiments proposed by the physicists in London, Calcutta, and Southampton to test quantum mechanics on scales never attempted before
Researchers have developed a way to apply quantum measurement to something no matter its mass or energy. "Our proposed experiment can test if an object is classical or quantum by seeing if an act of observation can lead to a change in its motion," says physicist Debarshi Das from UCL. ScienceAlert r.
Quantum science is usually concerned with ultra-small scales, where the mathematics of probability becomes a more useful tool than 'classical' descriptions of matter.
