Vote on charging Four Mile Road homeowners thousands for business park's water/sewer delayed

During a public hearing as a part of a special Village Board meeting Tuesday in Caledonia Village Hall, President Jim Dobbs asked the audience three times if there was anyone wishing to speak in favor of proposed property assessments. None came forward.
Then Dobbs asked the audience if anyone wished to speak in opposition. Many came forward.
âNone of us here wanted this (or) asked for it,â Dwight Majeres, who owns 1.02 acres on Four Mile Road and whose estimated assessment payment would be the minimum $31,625.18, said angrily. âWe got it stuffed down our throat â¦ Iâm going to have to sell my place. I canât afford to live there. Iâm by myself. What am I going to do? Where am I going to go â¦ what, go to a nursing home?â ....

Caledonia may charge homeowners thousands for water/sewer connections they didn't want

On June 3, 2019, during a meeting when the plan was seemingly scrapped, Village President Jim Dobbs said: âI am sending this back to staff (to) make this more palatable.â That had been a relief for the homeowners living on the north side of Four Mile Road, between Highway V and Interstate 94, at risk of being forced to pay the special assessments. But they remained skeptical it would come up again.
Last year, sewer and water lines were put in while Four Mile Road was reconstructed, but there were no assessments for the work at that time â a public hearing was expected in spring 2020, but called off because of COVID-19 concerns. ....
