The Williamson County Cities and Health District has upgraded the risk of community transmission of COVID-19 to its highest level. The county went from a high risk of catching COVID-19 to an uncontrolled risk on Saturday, according to district news release on Monday. The upgrade does not change local rules or regulations for businesses, the release said, but the district is urging everyone who can to get vaccinated. The county has met at least two conditions, based on recommendations by the national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, that allow officials to announce an increased risk of community transmission. One of the conditions is the number of people getting infected. The incidence of people catching the virus had increased to 14.54 people getting infections per 100,000 people on Monday, the district said. ....
Williamson County Judge Bill Gravell on Tuesday said the county could have 70% of its population vaccinated from COVID-19 by Memorial Day. When the county reaches the 70% vaccination rate, he said, it can close its vaccination hubs and people who need vaccines can go to pharmacies or their own doctors. According to data from the Texas Department of Heath and Human Services, 25.7% of Williamson County s population ages 16 and older have been fully vaccinated as of Tuesday, and 41.7% have received at least one vaccine dose in the county. Gravell said 52,000 people, or 71%, of the county s population ages 65 and older have been vaccinated. The county s population of residents ages 65 and older is estimated at 73,202. ....
