Anonymous donor gifts holiday meals to L-D students and staff


LEAD — Students and staff in the Lead-Deadwood School District must’ve been extra nice in 2020, as Santa Claus recently drop shipped hundreds of turkeys and hams into Lead, making them available to the district’s households, just because.
A donation meant to remain anonymous, the generous donor wished the random act of kindness be referred to as a gift from Santa.
Lead-Deadwood Elementary School Principal Tim Kosters, who has a direct line to the jolly old elf, helping organize the give-away, said every year, the district has individuals and organizations wishing to make a difference during the holidays by allocating dollars to help families in need. ....

Clippers for a Cause fundraiser to bolster student's cancer battle | Local News


LEAD — Vivian Wittmayer and her family are battling childhood cancer.
The Lead-Deadwood School District is pitching in to help them fight their fight with a $10,000 fundraising goal as part of Clippers for a Cause.
Vivian, of Lead, is a 13-year-old Lead-Deadwood Middle School student was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer, after finding a lump in her foot.
Wednesday, her mother, Emily Sprague, said Vivian had just finished with round nine of 14 chemotherapy treatments and has four more radiation treatments to go.
“We’ve been in Sioux Falls for the last four weeks. After the radiation is done, we will be headed home and only have to come back to Sioux Falls about every two weeks for chemo until the middle of February,” Sprague said. “Some time after her chemo is all done we will have to travel to Mayo again for two more weeks of radiation on her lung.” ....
