DAYTONA BEACH If Jim Chisholm s missile launcher pitching arm and talent for darting into an end zone with a football had taken him farther than high school championships and a college scholarship, he might have never found his way to Daytona Beach.

Never forgotten: Volusia and Flagler counties' law enforcement agencies gather for annual memorial

Law enforcement officers from Volusia and Flagler counties gathered at Daytona Memorial Park on Friday, May 14, to remember 32 fallen officers during the annual memorial ceremony.
Held during National Police Week, the memorial was attended by members of the Volusia County Sheriff s Office, Flagler County Sheriff s Office, and police departments from throughout Volusia County. The 32 officers mentioned in the ceremony, which included two K-9s, died in the line of duty between 1895 and 2018.
“I know I speak for everyone when I say we have great respect for these heroes, and by us keeping their heroic deeds and proud and honorable service in our hearts, we then ensure that they are never, never forgotten, said DeLand Police Chief Jason Umberger. ....

National Police Week In Volusia & Flagler Counties

Daytona Beach, FL – We’re in the middle of National Police Week and tomorrow, (May 12) the Police Unity Tour will make its way through Daytona Beach as they travel from the Law Enforcement Memorial in Tallahassee and ending at the American Police Hall of Fame & Museum in Titusville. The 320-mile ride is to raise awareness about those officers who have died in the line of duty and money for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. Volusia Sheriff Mike Chitwood, now recovered from his accident on his bicycle with a driver on March 18, 2021, will join the riders here for an Honor Stop Ceremony at 3:15 p.m. at the Daytona Beach Police Department. He’ll speak at Friday’s (May 14) Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony at the American Police Hall of Fame & Museum. Also on Friday, the Volusia-Flagler Law Enforcement Memorial Service is back this year – it’s at 8:30 a.m. at Daytona Memorial Park, located at 1425 Bellevue Avenu ....
