The Medical Director, National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, Dr Alimi Mustapha, has advocated an end to medical tourism in the country.
Mustapha, at the unveiling of the Modular Theatre Complex and Amenity Ward, said the hospital was established to provide comprehensive health care delivery and training in orthopaedics and trauma.
He noted that the construction of the Modular Theatre Complex became necessary when there was a steep rise in surgeries performed by the hospital due to development in clinical services.
“In a bid to curb medical tourism and attract high profile clients, the hospital also constructed an amenity ward from the internally generated revenue. The ward has eight private rooms, an eight bedded Intensive Care Unit, a well-equipped operating theatre, a gym, laboratory and mini pharmacy. The revenue generated from this laudable project would be used to improve the existing fa ....

Malaria remains public health challenge globally, says expert

A consultant medical parasitologist, Prof. Wellington Oyibo, has lamented the burden of malaria globally, saying the ailment remains a public health challenge.
Oyibo, who is also the head of the ANDI Centre of Excellence for Malaria Diagnosis, College of Medicine, University of Lagos, Idi-Araba, Lagos, said malaria morbidity and mortality had remained high over the years.
The expert spoke at the third anniversary of St. Rachael’s Pharmacy and the unveiling of the firm’s new antimalarial brand in Lagos.
According to him, the neglect of malaria interventions as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic will escalate the malaria situation. ....
