Sask. family offers $100K reward for safe return of man who went missing on Weyakwin Lake

James Hamm says his family won’t stop searching until they have closure on his son’s disappearance.
“We’re not quitting with any of it until we find him or his body,” he said, speaking on the Weyakwin Lake dock where Matthew Hamm was last seen.
Six months after Matthew’s disappearance, his family is offering a $100,000 reward for his safe return.
Matthew, who was 24 years old at the time, went out on his boat on Sept. 23 around 6 p.m. to catch some fish for supper something he regularly did after work at his family’s campground and septic business. ....

Faster-spreading COVID-19 variants detected in northern Sask.

COVID-19 variants are spreading in Saskatchewan, with cases now detected in the north
The Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority (NITHA) says there’s been two variant cases detected in the far north eastern and far north western part of the province not disclosing exact locations.
Dr. Nnamdi Ndubuka, NITHA’s the chief medical health officer, says the variant cases can be 30 to 70 per cent more transmissible than the original COVID-19 virus.
“It can spread faster and it can cause individuals to be more sick than the original COVID-19 virus,” Ndubuka tells CTV News.
“So what this means is that our health system could be overwhelmed very easily.” ....

Sask. RCMP 'on track' to meet commitment of giving cultural training to staff

On March 20, Sask. RCMP released a statement saying it would implement the recommendations of a report examining the police investigation into Colten Boushie’s death by April 1, 2021.
The report was completed by The Civilian Review Complaints Commission (CRCC), an independent agency that examines the conduct of the RCMP.
Sask. RCMP says its been closely monitoring completion of the cultural training.
It said the most recent update indicated “we are on track to meet this commitment,” in an email to CTV News.
Some of the recommendations in the report include giving some officers more guidance to interviewing witnesses and cultural awareness training to be provided to all RCMP employees. ....

'We will be able to celebrate together': Saskatoon churches prepare for Easter services

Last year, churches were forced to cancel services at churches over Easter weekend due to the province s public health orders. This year, parishioners are allowed to gather for the sacred holiday.
“We are starting with in-person services for the first time in about five months. We have a good Friday Service at 10:30 a.m. and then Sunday morning Easter service at 10 a.m.,” said co-pastor of the Mount Royal Mennonite Church Gareth Ewert Fisher.
The province s public health guidelines limit seating capacity to 30 per cent of a place of worship occupancy or 150 people, whichever is lower. Pastor Fisher said he is looking forward to seeing some of his regular churchgoers he has been unable to interact with in-person. ....
