The 52 American hostages ended 444 days of captivity yesterday, flying to freedom in exchange for $8 billion in frozen Iranian assets.
The ordeal officially ended early today when Algerian intermediaries turned the former captives over to U.S. government officials in a joyous ceremony at the Algiers airport.
And ten, about four hours later, to the cheers of hundreds of spectators, the freed Americans arrived in two Air Force hospital planes at Rhein-Main Air Base in Frankfurt, West German. The first plane landed under a full moon at 6:43 a.m. German time (9:43 p.m. PST). The second touched down two minutes later. ....
