More than three in five Florida seniors 65 and older are fully vaccinated against the coronavirus, an analysis of state data shows, but Black and Hispanic residents remain disproportionately unvaccinated.
Florida health officials reported Saturday that 2,704,788 seniors statewide have received the Moderna and Pfizer booster shots or the one-shot Johnson & Johnson formula. That accounts for 60.1% of Florida s estimated 4,498,198 seniors. ....

January Lights for Peace Flag to honor Walter D. LaBerge

During the month of January, the 17th Lights for Peace flag to fly at the Fort Taber - Fort Rodman Military Museum honors the memory of Walter LaBerge, who served with the United States Army from 1959 to 1965.
LaBerge entered into the military on Nov. 4, 1959 and did his basic training at Fort Dix, New Jersey. He was attached to Company B, 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry as an infantry soldier assigned to Fort Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska.
Wintertime temperatures in the area around Fort Richardson can range from 80 degrees below zero to 40 degrees, according to militarybases.com. Soldiers stationed at Fort Richardson are required to learn and master unique skills that are taught in few other places. Winter survival, tundra crossing, river lining, snow and glacier travel, snow combat and cold weather vehicle operation are all part of the normal training program at the base. ....
