While thousands have landed or departed from the Chief Dawid Stuurman International Airport, few understand the significance it has had for some of the original residents of the region.
Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) would like to place on record its response to an opinion piece, written by Dr Dean Allen, titled: “For Gqeberha to really fly, our airport needs to make a better first impression” (The Herald, December 5).
The first SA Airways (SAA) flight from Johannesburg to Gqeberha in almost four years, landed to much fanfare at Chief Dawid Stuurman International Airport on Wednesday.
The land invasion drama at Papiesfontein near Jeffreys Bay unfolded further at the weekend with the newly formed Greater Kabeljous Partnership cutting off a gate lock installed by Kouga ANC councillor Wayne Petersen, accused of occupying the land illegally, and leading a site visit walk through the area.
