Davie High offering COVID-19 shots for students on campus in Mocksville


With infectious disease experts lamenting the increase in COVID-19 cases among young people, Davie County Schools will have a vaccine clinic for eligible students at Davie County High School on Wednesday.
Students 16 and up are eligible for the Pfizer vaccine, which has a two-dose regimen. The vaccines will be offered from 10 a.m. to noon at the high school’s parking lot.
The school is partnering with the Davie County Health and Human Services to offer the shot.
“This is a tough group to communicate with from a public health standpoint, with their schedules, and it’s harder for them to be reached as opposed to people who read the daily news,” said Justin White, the deputy director of public health for Davie County Health and Human Services. ....

Davie County Schools' teachers and staff get COVID-19 shots


More than 300 people received their first COVID vaccine on the first day of the vaccination clinic.

DAVIE COUNTY, N.C. Hundreds of teachers and other employees with Davie County Schools received their first COVID-19 vaccine Wednesday. It was the first day of a district-wide vaccination exercise for employees and was designated a remote learning day.
The second day for the vaccination exercise is scheduled for Feb.19 which is also a remote learning day, DCSD officials said.
District officials said they would provide more information for parents regarding the remote learning day.
More than 300 hundred teachers and staff turned up for the vaccination exercise. ....

Davie County teachers among first in state to get COVID-19 vaccines. About 39% of staffers sign up for first dose


Davie County became one of among a handful of school districts in the state to provide staff members with COVID-19 vaccines on Wednesday.
The school system is the first in the Triad to offer the vaccination specifically to staff members. Of Davie County Schools 900 fulltime and part-time employees, 350 signed up for and were vaccinated at a drive-thru clinic at Davie County High School, according to Jenni Pleasant, a spokesperson for the district.
Media members were not allowed near the vaccination site for interviews or photos.
Schools employees across the state got pushed down the priority list about a month ago to allow for people aged 65 to 74 to receive shots.  ....
