Lierman launches bid for Maryland comptroller with goal of boosting equity Erin Cox Del. Brooke E. Lierman, a civil and disability rights attorney from Baltimore, launched the state’s first 2022 bid for comptroller on Thursday, laying out a vision to broaden the job of chief tax collector to address income inequality. Lierman (D-Baltimore City) said the comptroller’s massive data trove about wealth, and its statewide network of offices, could help guide a pandemic recovery that helps working families, minority communities, small businesses and service workers who have been disproportionately hurt by the economic crisis. “We are up against a lot in the state right now,” she said in an interview before her virtual campaign launch. “The pandemic has both really crystallized existing inequity in the state, and reinforced the need for bold and innovative leadership.”
