PAWTUCKET  The proprietor of Ama s Variety on Main Street, who looked after generations of neighborhood children as if they were her own and was known as Mama Ama, died Sunday, which was not only Easter but also her birthday.. Ama Amponsah, 62, who for eight years was Pawtucket s sergeant at arms, responsible for keeping order at City Council meetings and delivering the docket packet of documents to the homes of council members before each meeting, won the District 5 Council seat last year and began serving in January. She touched everyone s heart, Council President David P. Moran said Monday. She was just a wonderful person to be around all the time. I don t think I ve ever seen her raise her voice.
