Not so much in the public sector. they still represent over 30% of public sector workers where they represent under 7% now in the private-sector. so the public sector is really where the biggest clout and numbers are in the american labor. last year for the first time there were more workers in public employee unions than in private employee unions and so going after the public sector unions which is clearly a strategic goal of the republicans, really is a body blow to the democratic party. not just because unions get pretty good voting results on election day out of their own members but because some of these unions in particular, the service international employees union do a great job of mobilizing african-american and latino voters who are not their members come election time and the democrats really need those votes. david, is this something then that we ll see the obama ....
