Locals want ban on Indian travellers

Member of Parliament for Nkange, Dr Never Tshabang, has criticised the government for the favouritism, he says, is being given to Indian nationals visiting Botswana.
Tshabang’s comments follow an outcry by Batswana who feel the Indians have been allowed to come into the country despite a devastating COVID-19 variant (B.1.617) surge that has shattered global records for new cases.
Locals have also complained of imposed travel restrictions, yet Indians from a red zone country are allowed to enter the country.
In an interview with The Voice, Dr Tshabang said that the Indians were receiving preferential treatment in Botswana, mainly because their businesses are the main sponsors of the ruling Botswana Democratic Party. ....

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Wellness Kabelo Ebineng became the latest causality in the protracted fallout between Covid-19 Presidential Task force and Performance Improvement Coordination (PIC) Force which is made up of Permanent Secretaries.
The two centres of powers in the Covid-19 fight are said to be causing division and confusion at the Government Enclave and the PIC Force feels that they have been reduced to rubber stampers of the decision of Presidential Covid-19 Task Force. ....

By Wednesday afternoon, Botswana had recorded, 124 Covid-19 deaths since the outbreak of the pandemic last year.
In his address on Monday, the Deputy Director Health Services, Professor Mosepele Mosepele said that they were recording 300 new cases daily, a development he described as a big concern.
