Transcripts For CSPAN2 David Randall Black Death At The Golden Gate 20240713

Our pick of the month, black death at the golden gate, the race to save america from the bubonic plague is the reason we are here this evening. Welcome david randall. [applause] thank you all for coming, especially with the weather outside. It is like to be inside where it is dry. One thing i realized, my first book, when i went and talked about that i realized many people are coming to the talks because they had their own sleep disorders and wanted to talk to somebody about it. This book is about the plague. If you think you have the plague this is not the place for you. There is a hospital three blocks that way, that is where you should go instead. One of the questions people ask me is how did you get interested in this book, the last book i wrote was about malibu. They use to own all of malibu, how they got it, how they lost it. One of the main characters comes up to San Francisco in 1900 and read the letter the bachelors wife, this is the weakest place i have ever seen and there ar

Thank you, rbert paul, and thanks to you all for being here as we have this daily briefing. I appreciate the media trying to help us get the information out to the people of utah and let them know where we are, what we are doing and what we are planning to do going forward. , ier a briefing yesterday heard one commentator talk about what we just heard from governor herbert, and it felt like repetition. Im sure it was. Feel the samele way today about repetition, because we are very singleminded and our goal to slow down the spread of the covid 19 virus. We are singleminded of purpose that we are going to make sure people understand the plan of action we have, and we are still in that urgent phase. We wont rest until we drive down the transmission right, because if we dont, the Health System will be overrun and we will have a more acute problem. So we are singlem

The most walk us through a peer started with college peer. It was just my 10 year reunion so [laughter] i did not attend i graduated 2009 from Wesleyan University with a degree in sociology. I just read in the wall street journal that 2009 was the worst job market for generations. I had the good fortune to walk straight into that. After my internships and my parents in music for a while i worked at a Literary Agency for a couple of years in new york. After that joined doing a netflix or ebook type. I was there just for three months. It was just supposed to be that i was the person that knew about books and publishing. It was a fourperson company want to join three of four founders. From there went to San Francisco and worked at a Data Analytics startup. At that it would be a great application for my sociology degree. Little did i know i wasnt what they were looking for. I did the 18 months which is probably the longest 18 months of my life. And i really like to work in a Company Buildi
