THE past 15 months have been a difficult time for all involved with music performance. Ilkley Concert Club has not been able to present a concert since March 2020 although we have kept our members and supporters supplied with on-line performances. We are grateful to all the musicians who recorded concerts and made them available to Ilkley Concert Club and are happy that we were able to support them financially in exchange. However, the King’s Hall is now open again and the Club looks forward to presenting a new season of concerts for 2021 22. This prospect is inevitably tinged with sadness at the recent announcement of the death, at the age of 93, of David Pyett, for many years an outstanding chairman of the Club. Nevertheless this present loss makes us even more determined to bring back chamber music to Ilkley, as David would have wished. We are cautiously optimistic that as near to a normal season will be presented, although we must remain flexible to respond to change ....
Fed up residents want to see the gates to a national park closed each night after another illegal cave rave party last weekend. Police were called out on Saturday night to the Malabar Headland National Park, in Sydney s south-east, where a rave was in full swing. Officers - including a PolAir helicopter - issued a move on directive to the crowd around midnight - only to then receive reports of another unauthorised party in bushland at Henry Head, near neighbouring La Perouse, roughly an hour later. Last December, officers from NSW Eastern Beaches Police warned partygoers these type of anti-social events would not be tolerated, following a string of illegal parties being shut down on the Malabar Headland. ....
