Town hires enforcement help for STR ban

He also said the town has filled an assistant building inspector position in  order to help with enforcement. Conway selectmen issued a statement last week explaining that since voters in April rejected their proposed set of STR regulations, which would legally have allowed non-owner-occupied short-term rentals in residential districts, the town has no option but to enforce existing regulations that prohibit such rentals. Town Code Officer David Pandora on May 7 issued a letter to rental property owners, informing them that due to an April 13 town vote, STRs are allowed only in residential districts and only if the home is owner-occupied and has applied for and received permission from the town. Property owners were given 30 days to respond.

Groups want hiatus on banning STRs

CONWAY — A group advocating for responsible short-term rental ownership today plans to ask selectmen to hold off on enforcing a ban on STRs. The local chamber of commerce slso seeks a grace period on enforcement. The Mt. Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce recently released a statement on the STR issue, saying it supports a grace period through Columbus Day weekend to allow STR owners and those who have made their vacation plans to include an STR stay time to adjust to the new rules passed by majority vote at the April Town Meeting. “We feel confident that the Town of Conway Board of Selectman will approach this issue with fairness as they begin the process of administering the will of the voters,” said the chamber.

Conway releases 30-day notice to STR owners

CONWAY — On Friday, the town released hundreds of notices to short-term property owners, informing them that such rentals must be owner-occupied. The letter, signed by code officer David Pandora, says, “We would prefer to achieve voluntary compliance as opposed to an enforcement action. Please let us know your position within 30 days of the date of this letter.” The letter is the result of an April 13 town vote in which a majority of residents opted not to alter town zoning to explicitly allow short-term rentals in residential zones. Proponents of short-term rentals say they should still be legal under existing zoning.
