(12-Apr) Tomorrow at an undisclosed location in Oregon, 2018 Boston Marathon champion Des Linden will attempt to run the fastest-ever time for 50 kilometers on the road by a woman at the Brooks Running 50-K and Marathon. The mark she hopes to beat is 3:07:20 set by Britain’s Aly Dixon at the IAU World 50-K Championships in Brasov, Romania, on September 1, 2019. Linden is widely expected to better Dixon’s mark which, by one popular conversion formula, is equivalent to a 2:36:13 marathon, nearly 14 minutes slower than Linden‘s best time of 2:22:38. ....

(07-Apr) With the Olympic Marathons exactly four months away, the number of men’s and women’s qualifiers are already over the World Athletics stated goal of 80 athletes per gender (equal for men and women) after taking into account the limit of three athletes per gender for each National Olympic Committee (NOC).
On the men’s side, 101 starting positions have already been earned by men from 44 countries who ran a qualifying time of 2:11:30 or better beginning January 1, 2019. For women, 82 starting places are spoken for from 42 countries, 77 by time (2:29:30 or better) and five through finish position at designated “qualifying competitions,” like finishing in the top-10 at an Abbott World Marathon Majors race or at the 2019 World Athletics Championships Marathon. ....

NN MISSION MARATHON PUSHED BACK – The special all-elite NN Mission Marathon, originally scheduled for Sunday, April 11, in central Hamburg, has been pushed back a week to April 18, due to status of the pandemic in that area of Germany. In addition, race organizers need to move the race to another location. Frank Thaleiser, the managing director of event organizer MHV Running Events, said through a news release: “Of course we were quite disappointed at first, but we can understand the decision given the current situation. We are now putting all our efforts into the realization of the event at a different location and are optimistic that we will find a solution.” W ....
