Shelter no bigger than an industrial sized freezer. back to you guys. david, i want to ask you, david, the storm chasers were also working on the television side. of course, we were lucky our weather channel crew made it through okay. the question people are asking this morning, is the effort to get the story or the images so great that we re getting too close here? i mean, do we need to rethink how we approach these storms? reporter: you can make that argument but it s not just what you see on television is the pictures. but what they re getting is not just the pictures. these are meteorologists who are getting data. you can get just so much information from radar about where a tornado actually is, what it s doing on the ground. the other information you have to get from eyeballs on the ground. human eyes. before we get drones maybe in the future to go in and get that kind of data, we still need those human eyes on the ground, so it is a life-saving effort. ....

Malkoff is in lawton, oklahoma. he talked to the weather channel s mike bettes in that car. david you first of all, how s mike doing and what did he tell you about his experience? reporter: mike is very shaken, craig. let me tell you. he s got some injuries to his hands because he had his hands over his head. he may have actually swallowed some glass, so he has a little bit of scratchy throat here. but other than that, he is no more worse for wear. there was another member of the crew who had some more severe injuries. he is in the hospital right now. but let me set this up for you. we got three vehicles in our tornado hunt crew. there s a support vehicle. there s the vehicle that mike bettes and two other individuals were in. and then there s the television transmission truck. the vehicle mike bettes was in was a tornado hunt truck. it got picked up, literally picked up by one of these ....
