ANOTHER Chester school is to benefit from a project aiming to make children s journeys home safer. The funding, from Cheshire s police and crime commissioner, will take effect at St Werburgh’s and St Columba’s Catholic Primary School on Lightfoot Street, which has identified a growing need for ‘safe places’ in the community where children walking home alone can seek support if they feel unsafe. In 2019, St Werburgh’s and St Columba’s Catholic Primary School launched the safe school pilot project after securing funding from PCC David Keane’s Safer Communities Fund. The project enabled the school to work with local shops to provide safe spaces for young people who may be being followed or bullied on their way home from school.
CHESHIRE police and crime commissioner David Keane is encouraging community groups to apply for emergency funding to support residents who have been affected by flooding. Grants of up to £1,000 are available for projects supporting those recovering from flood damage or people who have been evacuated from their homes due to the flood waters. It’s after a major incident was declared in Cheshire yesterday as Storm Christoph caused heavy rainfall across the county. Flood warnings and alerts have been put in place across Cheshire and some residents in Chester, Northwich, Tattenhall, Winsford and Warrington were evacuated from their homes. The funding is part of PCC David Keane’s Safer Communities Fund, which is funded by money taken from Cheshire criminals under the Proceeds of Crime Act (PoCA 2002).

Halton Youth Council and Power in Partnerships have both been awarded a £5,000 grant from David Keane s Safer Communities Fund. The grant awarded to Halton Youth Council will see a multi-agency project, involving Cheshire Police and other partners, install knife amnesty bins across Runcorn and Widnes. The funding will be used to purchase the bins and to promote their safe usage within schools and colleges.
