Going West Festival has announced a brand-new approach to celebrating live poetry with Different Out Loud, a collection of thoughtful video collaborations between Aotearoa poets and filmmakers.
Themed around the word âcoastalâ, these integrated pieces by some of our best poets and finest screen artists are being aired online from 12 April 2021.Â
The Kaupapa for Different Out Loud was to create poetry on the theme of âcoastalâ or âlittoralâ, shot within the WaitÄkere Ranges Local Board area. Four of these videos are true collaborations, in which poets and filmmakers have worked together to develop integrated pieces, where the words and pictures depend on each other for their fullest meaning.Â

Between the Tides: Poetry @ Piha.
Led by poet, dramaturge for Indian Ink Theatre Company and educator Murray Edmond, Going West’s first live event of 2021 will kick off with a workshop ideal for anyone interested in creating poetry in the sand.
Author of 20 poetry and fiction books Edmond says, “My aim is to teach people how to use the 4 Cs calligrams, cinquains, couplets and concrete poems to help create poems that form word-patterns.
“So if you bring along your basic theme/idea that you would like to write about, we can do the rest on-site.”
