METRO DETROIT A total solar eclipse brought all ages out to marvle at the sky Monday, April 8. In metro Detroit, some schools let students out early or cancelled classes, and streams of skywatchers clogged some freeways for a better view in Ohio.
Ohio, Indiana, and a small portion of Michigan will be in the path of the total solar eclipse, providing a nearly once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for residents to see it within driving distance.
University of Michigan researchers are preparing cameras, weather balloons, radio antennas and other scientific instruments, as well as young citizen scientist collaborators, for this opportunity. The next total solar eclipse won't come to the U.S. for another 20 years.
